Typeset In The Future
DEDICATED TO FONTS IN SCI-FI
Proof there is a well-deserved corner of the Internet for everything. And what a lovely obsession Typeset In The Future is. Dave Addey examines the typography used in science fiction in well-researched, painstaking detail. Just lovely. I’m particularly fond of his analysis of Ridley Scott’s Alien and Blade Runner.
Sigur Rós — Route One
“In a day and age of instant gratification and everything moving so fast, we wanted to do the exact opposite,” says Sigur Rós’s Jónsi Birgisson. ”Slow TV is counter-active to the world we live in, in that it happens in real time and real slow.”
Sigur Rós presented Route One, a 24-hour live broadcast around Iceland’s Ring Road (i.e. Route 1) set to a constanly evolving soundtrack based on their new song Óveður. I watched part of the live broadcast: I found the music — generated by software — well suited for enjoying the trip around Iceland.
Update: The entire 24-hour broadcast is now available on YouTube.
Weekly Car Crush: Honda City Turbo II
I just love this little car. It’s on my must-own short list. I find it cute and it would tick several bucket list items for me: right-hand drive and turbocharged. Of course, an R32 Nissan Skyline would also tick those. The Honda City Turbo II is a “hot hatch” — something else I’ve never owned or driven. In any case, I just like the damn thing.
For further exploration: a 1986 Honda City Turbo II at CaliforniaCar.com, a 1985 Honda City Turbo II at Japanese Classics, and a 1983 Honda City Turbo II with a NOS Motocompo scooter at Bring A Trailer.
